Bride's Interview with Darlene Taylor, Owner of TaylorMade Weddings

Please take a few moments to read this before hiring TaylorMade Weddings.

Q: How did you become a wedding planner/coordinator and how long have you been doing what you do?

While singing with a local band in Southern Virginia, I had the opportunity to work closely with brides and grooms who had hired me to sing for their weddings. As I worked with dozens and dozens of couples, and talked with them, I found that by the time they had reached this stage in their wedding planning, they were completely overwhelmed. Frustrated. They couldn't "wait for it all to be over." Stressing over money, dealing with family drama, and fretting over little details, they were losing sleep at night from worrying how "everything will come together and be beautiful."

I truly relate to brides for when I was a bride, I, too, found myself overwhelmed with planning my own wedding. I, too, couldn't wait for it all to be over because I was working a full-time job, performing every night and had no extra time to plan my dream wedding. I, too, was frantically rushing against the clock on my wedding day to get everything done while trying to answer questions from all the vendors I had hired. I had become...THAT BRIDE! Though I had planned hundreds of events as a hotel event coordinator and performed at numerous weddings in my band, I did not realize one important fact... You can't be the star of the show and the stage manager at the same time! You see - no matter how well you think things through or how many "t's" you cross and "i's" you dot, you can't be in two places at once! I needed someone to do what I couldn't do - not because I wasn't capable - but because I simply could not run the show and be a bride at the same time.

Through these experiences I saw a real need for a full service wedding planner/coordinator. Over 12 years ago, after working several years as a meeting planner and event coordinator for a large hotel group in Williamsburg, VA, I couldn't ignore the deep desire in my heart to help struggling, defeated brides, grooms, and their families plan their dream weddings. That's when I started my own wedding planning business, TaylorMade Weddings. Though I enjoyed singing, I enjoyed helping others create unique and memorable weddings so much more!

The most rewarding thing for me is when I see couples and families relaxed, having fun, and truly enjoying their own party. That is such a JOY!

Q: I love your planning services...but can you tell me what sets you apart from all the other wedding planners?

I specialize in creating unique and personalized weddings all over the state of Virginia and into PA, MD and DC. My clients are one-of-a-kind and my service is tailored to meet their needs.

I have a passion to help people, and I have been privileged to work alongside some of the most talented vendors in the event business who share my passion, commitment to excellence and attention to detail. I really get personal with my clients. Beginning in our first meeting, I have you fill out questionnaires which helps me to get to know you, your likes, and your personalities. This quality time together allows me to match the perfect vendors to your individual style. Because every couple is unique, every wedding I do is truly TaylorMade.

Weddings are very emotional times for couples and their families. My clients will tell you that I treat each and every one of them as if they are a member of my own family. Throughout your wedding planning, not only will you have a wedding planning mentor, but you will have someone who will encourage you along the way to become confident in your own abilities and decisions for your wedding.

Q: This all sounds wonderful but it also seems expensive. Am I going to be able to afford all this?

Partnering with us saves you so much time, energy, stress, and money because we keep your wedding from running your life. Did you know that it takes the average bride over 400 hours to plan her wedding? That's ten 40 hour work weeks! Do you have time for that? We work with you from the beginning to determine what your dreams and wishes are for your wedding day then help you set a spending plan that meets your dreams and a schedule to get it all done. When you consider the cost of your sanity, how can you afford NOT to have us?

Q: What types of couples do you work best with?

Great question! There should be a feeling of comfort between people who are working closely together. We work best with couples who are newly engaged, have just begun the planning process and may have already selected a few vendors. Our couples are stylish and savvy; they know what they want but do not make hasty decisions to get it; they want to make their wedding stand out and be unique. They seek counsel, are open to suggestions, and they appreciate the value of what we have to offer.

Q: Will I lose control of my wedding if you are planning it for me?

This is your wedding! It's all about your dreams and your wishes and we don't take that away from you. We are on your team! What we do is work alongside you to plan and execute your vision and we can do that because we've been with you from the beginning. We know you. We've cried with you...laughed with you...celebrated with you. At the end of the day - when the last bite of cake has been eaten and the final note has been played by the band, you will find that you'll have more than just another hired vendor...you'll have a friend!

Q: Will you work with the vendors I've already found or the ones I really want to work with?

Absolutely! We make it a point to contact your vendors to talk about your wedding day and keep them in the loop about all the details and any updates. We seek to build a relationship with each one of your vendors before your wedding so we all know what to expect from each other on your wedding day. By doing this, it will ensure that things will run smoothly for them, for us, and for YOU!

Q: Do you take credit cards and can I have a payment plan?

We built a payment plan into our contract. After an initial deposit, we set up a payment schedule so that you are not hit with a large balance in the final weeks before your wedding. All payments to TaylorMade Weddings can be made by credit card, check, or cash.

Q: Do you take more than one wedding per day?

No. We dedicate 100% of our attention and energy to you and only you for your wedding day which, for us, starts a few days before your event. We are already working behind the scenes before the big day is officially here.

Q: This sounds like everything I've been looking for. What happens next to start the process?

The next step is to call 540-550-0095 or e-mail me at info@taylormade-weddings.com to set up a Get Acquainted Session. I want to hear about your wedding dreams and find out about your style and tastes. Then we can build a package that fits your personality, style and budget best.

Q: May I contact some of your former clients to see what it's like to work with you?

Yes! Absolutely. You can look at some of our client testimonials right now and you can also view our client reviews.

Q: I have a couple more questions before getting started. Can I call you to discuss them further?

Yes! In fact, I highly encourage you to schedule a consultation so we can get all your questions answered and make sure we're a great fit for one another.
